Just heard about the ceasefire agreement from folks in Gaza (was heads-down coding).

I want to be optimistic although I fear what Israel and Netanyahu’s government will do to sabotage it.

Also, is it too soon to talk about holding Israel and the IDF responsible for genocide?

@aral

I understand this deal is basically the same as that Biden proposed, it was too early. There will be elections in Israel next year so Netanyahu no longer needs the support of the far right.
I've no doubt that Israel will break the ceasefire, but trump can put pressure on them and will. He won't get the Nobel peace prize tomorrow but if he thinks he can next year maybe it'll be enough for trump to hold them to the agreement.

@aral afaik there is an exception within the agreement which allows the Israelis to bomb/shoot anyone they deem a risk to their soldiers.

So they will keep bombing, just maybe at a reduced rate.

Their goal is the eradication of the Palestinian people and the total control of the land from the river to the sea. They will stop at nothing less.

@aral The announcement starts, "Trump says.." So I KNOW it'll be a lie.

@aral There were some tanks shooting at people heading north to Gaza City a few hours ago (after the ceasefire had been called) but from what I can see at the moment, it seems to be ... ok?

Sending love and solidarity to all your families in Gaza 💖 🇵🇸 ✊

@aral It likely will be sabotaged after the coveted peace prize is given.

Also, the foxes will be guarding the hen house:

BBC: "The plan states that Hamas will have no future role in Gaza, which will be governed by a temporary transitional body of Palestinian technocrats - supervised by a 'Board of Peace' headed and chaired by Donald Trump and involving former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair."

@aral it’s fantastic and a huge relief if the slaughter has stopped

However, the prospects for the Palestinian people seem questionable when they rely on a private-investment-led process conceived by the likes of Blair, Kushner, Trump & Netanyahu

@aral Facts. The blend of hope horror and anger is a hell of a cocktail.

Peace being the presence of justice rather than the absence of conflict, here's to seeing peace soon.

@aral I also want to be optimistic, but to much has happened. The only optimistic I can say is that the people in Gaza now don't worry about being killed by a Zionist drone or missile. But for how long? We all remember the previous cease-fires. This is a forced surrender, with two winners; Trump and Nethanyahu. And to answer you final question: NO! Never!
