My 2 cents to the discussion about #Apple‘s upcoming #foldable #iPhone and #foldablePhones in general.
In terms of #aspectRatio, there is what I consider a perfect one. That’s the one where the ratio doesn’t change when you fold it.
a:b=b:2a
a:b=square root 2
In Germany we are used to it because #DIN standardized the An paper format. Those nerds even made it so that A0 has the area of 1 square meter.
Oh, I forgot this.
If the #foldable #iPhone can run iPad apps, which it should / has to, it should also support #pen input.
But the current #ApplePen is too big for that. So #Apple has to shrink the current pen or develop a new technology, probably passive without battery. There also needs to be a better easy to store this pen so that it stays in place when you put the phone into a pocket. I haven’t seen this in the models currently making the rounds.
In portrait, this ratio is great for reading, and in landscape, it’s slightly wider than 4:3 and therefore a good compromise for media consumption.
I’d love to use displays with this aspect ratio.
A7 (folded) / A6 (unfolded) would be very reasonable for the iPhone fold.
