If an AI can go to school for you what’s the point of going to school? For Advait Paliwal, Brown dropout and co-creator of Einstein, it's just like horses. “They used to pull carriages, but when cars came around, I'd argue horses became a lot more free."

What’s the Point of School When AI Can Do Your Homework?

The creator of the AI agent “Einstein” wants to free humans from the burden of academic labor. Critics say that misses the point of education entirely.

@404mediaco What a stupid idea, and on so many levels. I want to talk about those horses.

In the US, the horse population peaked around 1915 around 20 million, mostly for work in agriculture and urban transportation. At the same time, tractors came around and 2.5 million registered automobiles. In 1960, there were around 3 million horses, used principally for recreation. There was no longer a need for more. They were obsolete.

Now, answer the question, if AI can do the jobs and other activities that require education, how many people will there be 40 years later? Who knows? But they won’t be working at the jobs of today if they cost more or require more maintenance. As long as we live in a society that optimizes for profit rather than quality of life, humans will be the horses.

@404mediaco What an incredibly stupid thing for him to say.

The infiltration of education by "AI" has no horse equivalent, unless he's thinking of the students, maybe? But even then, that's simply not what "AI" is doing. It's actually squeezing students between my responsibility as an instructor to make sure they do their own work, the administration's blind loyalty to big tech, and big tech's desire to charge everyone involved a monthly fee so that all of us cancel each other out.

@404mediaco nah, thats just the "very rich kids" symptom who do not want to learn anything cause they think they do not to need to work or do anything in their life anyways but want the social standing and respect that a degree gives. lol. also cool clickbait the article in a way :)
