Having read numerous articles about the brand new Apple macbook neo and I can't help but think about the economies of scale. They're reusing A18 Pro silicon (which is a smartphone SoC) for a desktop OS, Apple is subsidizing their research & development and advanced wafer costs across millions of iPhones and entry-level laptops.

This pricing removes the previous economic barriers for standard, high-volume personal computers in a way Dell or HP haven't been quite able to do so far.

I think it doesn't threaten the ThinkPad or heavy-duty workstations per se, but it absolutely wrecks the value proposition of premium chromebooks and low-end windows ARM machines.
