Any #CultOfApple folks here? My teenage daughter, who has only had #Linux laptops so far in her life has expressed interest in a Macbook. After I stopped sobbing deep in my heart I decided to try to help her.
She found a deal for a 2017 Macbook Air with 8GB RAM and a 128GB SSD for about $350. She's not a gamer; she watches a lot of online videos, does a ton of word processing (kind of an amazing teenage writer in my biased opinion), and occasionally does graphics stuff (e.g., photo editing, Inkscape-type creation, etc.) or very occasionally some video editing. She's looking for long battery life, great graphics, and something that fits easily in her bag--so probably a 13" Macbook.
I'm cool with the $500 or so pricepoint. Used/refubished is pretty much guaranteed, of course. I'd like her laptop to "feel snappy" for a couple of years (8GB RAM and whatever processor was in the 2017 model seemed like it might not), and hopefully have a battery that doesn't die too soon, because I've never once heard anything positive about the repairability of Macs.
Anyone who has recommendations about a line or model I might look for would be thanked warmly.
