There have also been rumblings of implementing Zot/Nomad’s nomadic identities, although that effort seems to have stalled out. Finally, some platforms like Streams/Hubzilla (Nomad & Zot respectively) offer limited user account ownership, bridging internally to ActivityPub. However, if a server went down, the user would retain their Nomad/Zot following while losing their ActivityPub followers/following.
It didn't stall. Streams and its successor Forte support ActivityPub-native nomadic identities.
