Lying laws. Good idea or censorship?

Could this curb disinformation from politicians (much of which is the malignant medias' main fodder)?

One country is trying to outlaw political lying, without curbing free speech

Lawmakers in Wales are debating world-first legislation to protect the truth, but some fear it is fundamentally flawed.

I've long thought we need to change the system to curb lying in politics, but not by simply criminalising it. I think we need a process where formal accusations of lying or misconduct put a politician in front of a demographically representative audience of 100 of their constituents, who get to hear the case for/against & ask questions, deliberate like a peoples' assembly, then vote, and if the audience finds them guilty, trigger a by-election. They could stand again, but people would know why.
