Yes, there's plenty of human beings who seem to be roped into using their personal computers and tablets and smartphones as if they were merely Happy Boxes from #Mother3, in which the happiness is furnished by the purportedly infinite riches available on the contemporary #Internet and the World Wide Web...which is actually about 99.9% garbage, thanks to #tech entrepreneurship and "innovation".

But there have ALWAYS been people who have fought against this forcible limitation of personal electronic devices, who have always tried to do more with them than the bosses want us to do.

After all, doesn't "everyone" use a personal computer simply to use the #Internet?

Well...no. No, that's never actually been the case, despite decades of coercion from the #technology sector. The techlords piled everything into web development and monetizing the web and discouraging development of native applications so they could get their coveted all-in-one scheme to work with the fewest complications...and it's never entirely taken.

I see crap like this and I'm eerily reminded of a 1990s #technology craze, a lesser one, but one that dragged down Be, Inc. (in whom I'd put way too much quixotic faith) into derision and oblivion: the Internet appliance.

Remember this notion? The #Internet appliance? The device whose sole purpose is running a web browser?
