On the Trail of the Struggle: Lambros Fountas Present

by Marianna Manoura & Dimitra Zarafeta

On March 10, 16 years ago, Lambros Fountas, a member of the Revolutionary Struggle organization, was shot dead by the police. The murder of the anarchist comrade took place during the preparatory action of the organization in Dafni during an armed clash with the police forces.

The anarchist movement from the very first days defended and continues to defend the memory and content of the action of the armed fighter Lambros Foudas through marches, events, actions. The very organization of which he was a member carried out a blow to the Bank of Greece in 2014, dedicating it to his fallen comrade, taking responsibility under the signature “Commando Lambros Foundas”, thus paying tribute to the revolutionary.

Lambros Fountas, as a member of the armed revolutionary organization Revolutionary Struggle, chose to act through the armed proletarian counterattack at a time when the social base was affected by austerity measures. Measures imposed by the local and international elite in order to avoid the bankruptcy of the European banking system. And while politicians and channel managers present the memorandums and contracts as “means of salvation”, we experienced them as salary and pension cuts, as an impoverished today and as an uncertain tomorrow.

The Revolutionary Struggle organization fought against this condition, targeting the economically powerful, vigorously fighting the measures of the memorandums. He chose to create conditions of political instability, making it difficult to bleed the social base, leaving behind a great legacy in the international and domestic revolutionary movement. With actions against predatory “organizations” – Bank of Greece, City Bank, etc. -, the stock market, the uniformed killers of the MAT, he defended the armed social revolution, writing new chapters in the book of revolutionary history.

And maybe comrade Lambro Fouda and I have never met, never met, never fought side by side. But the thread of revolutionary memory bridges exactly this: fighters, movements and struggles that, while they developed in different corners of the planet and in different spaces and times, shared a common anguish and vision for liberation. Thus, the preservation of revolutionary memory is anything but a neutral process. It is a thorn in oblivion and a crack in the history of the rulers. That is why securing it is part of our own struggle, part of the present and the future. That is why, although the past was painted with blood, our dead managed to fill the inkwell of revolutionary history. And even if we hadn’t walked next to them, we had walked alongside them. And even if we hadn’t chosen the same path, we looked at the same skies. Because we shared the same dreams and hopes, experienced the same fears and rages. Thus, their struggle, the way they acted and the way they fell is an invitational struggle, a starting point and an occasion for new cycles of resistance. And as long as we keep the revolutionary memory alive, we also keep our history alive. A story built on the smiles and companionable looks of our own people, our own friends and our own partners. As did our comrade Kyriakos Xymitiris, who fell fighting almost a year and a half ago on 31.10.24, from the explosion in Ampelokipi. A comrade who envisioned a world of equality and freedom. A just world, built on the ruins of the old.

So for Lambros Fountas, Kyriakos Ximitiris and all the other fighters who saw themselves as part of the revolutionary history and poured themselves into the battle, it is our turn to make their death a cause of war. To stand worthy of our history and responsibilities and to perceive their death as a motivation to continue the struggle.

Spain: María José Baños Secures Release Thanks to Mobilization

María José Baños Andújar, the anti-fascist prisoner held by GRAPO, has been granted a suspended sentence, in accordance with Article 104.4 of the Spanish prison regulations. This paves the way for her imminent release to receive urgent hospital care due to her critical health condition. Aged 61, her health has severely deteriorated, notably due to HIV at stage C3 and a 69% disability.

This decision follows a solidarity and mobilization campaign led by various groups and political prisoners across Spain. In particular, fellow prisoner Marcos Martín ended a 16-day hunger strike, while other political prisoners continue their protests until their release. Supporters of María José Baños Andújar emphasize that this decision is a victory for collective mobilization, but also for the determination of the political prisoner who refused to be blackmailed into recanting. They call for the struggle to continue until her effective release and that of all other political prisoners still incarcerated.

If desalination plants are considered legitimate targets it could have very severe consequences throughout the region. Also the Gulf countries are very dependent.

2nd tweet
A US-Israeli airstrike has destroyed the desalination plant in Qeshm Island, southern #Iran, severing the residents' access to freshwater. A war in which passenger planes and industrial facilities are the target is simply a confused war of destruction that the world cannot ignore

“Solidarity is the Way” in Support of Deserters and Those Fleeing War

People move. This is a reality, plain and simple. It is criminalized and made painful, and even lethal, by the borders created by states, capitalism, xenophobes and wars.

We do not want to stand idly by. We strive to show practical solidarity with people who have decided to leave Ukraine because they have deserted or simply because they want to hide from the war, avoid mobilization, repression, or the cult of militarism and nationalism.

We are unable to assist people in crossing the state border. However, if they manage to move to Romania, we can share our resources and infrastructure with them.

We can provide the following resources and activities in particular:

– Temporary free accommodation in Romania, Slovakia, Austria, Czech
Republic, Germany, Greece…

– Financial contribution towards basic living expenses; medication,
travel tickets, food, clothing, etc.

– We can transport people from the Romanian border to a safe place in
the interior of Romania. We can pick up people in the following cities:

Siret – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siret
Tarna Mare – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarna_Mare
Izvoarele Sucevei – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izvoarele_Sucevei
Sighetu Marmației – https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sighetu_Marma%C8%9Biei

Our activities are organized by volunteers without financial compensation. We do not cooperate with state authorities, the police, the army, or border guards. We refuse to show solidarity with members of the bourgeoisie, politicians, or members of any government. We show solidarity primarily with people from the working class.

If you need our help, please contact us.

Here we will try to answer the most frequently asked questions about our activities. If you have any other questions, please contact us.

What should I do if I need your help?
Contact us via email and specify what kind of help you need. For example, if you need safe transport by car from the Romanian border, it is a good idea to contact us a few days before you cross the border. If you need to buy a train ticket, we can arrange it if we know where you are traveling from and to. If you need guidance on the asylum procedure in European Union countries, we can arrange a free consultation with someone who is knowledgeable in this area. In inland Romania, it is also possible to arrange temporary free accommodation so that you can recharge your batteries, rest, and later continue on your journey to a better life.

Can you help someone cross the border?
We do not provide this type of solidarity, but we agree with it in principle. There are other individuals and solidarity networks that can help you. But beware of police provocateurs. We also strongly warn against the possibility of being transferred for a fee. This is often done by scammers and people who do not care about your safety.

How much do I have to pay?
All our activities are organized free of charge. We are an informal solidarity network, not lawyers, a company, or an official institution. We are volunteers who want to show solidarity with people who need help. If you want to support our activities, you are welcome to do so. We accept money as a voluntary donation, not as payment for services.

Can I donate money for your activities by bank transfer?
Donations can only be made in person. Firstly, we do not want banks and commercial entities to profit from solidarity activities. Secondly, we prefer a support system that leaves no trace and does not reveal sensitive information about donors and active members of our network.

Why are there no specific individuals listed on your website who
organize your activities?

Solidarity networks are not a means of self-promotion. We are here primarily for others, not to show off our names, faces, and personal egos. Some of us also have experience with repression, so we know that solidarity activities can lead to persecution, criminalization, intimidation, and aggression. We live in a cruel world where it is legal to send money for deadly war purposes, but helping people escape war and mobilization can be criminalized. We must think about the safety of our colleagues and the people we help. That is why we prefer to present our project anonymously, and it is important for us to have a high degree of safety culture in communication and self-organization.

Why don’t you help members of the bourgeoisie or members of the
government?

Our solidarity network is an organized form of resistance by the working class. The bourgeoisie, governments, states, and their armies are responsible for wars and the suffering of the working class. They are not our allies, but parasites who exploit us in times of “peace” and mobilize us in times of war to die and kill so that their system can continue to plunder our lives and planetary ecosystems. Solidarity networks of the working class are a tool for changing the situation. Today, we stand in solidarity with workers fleeing war, who tomorrow may be able to help us when war comes closer to our homes.

How can you coordinate your activities in practical terms?
Our activities work because we collaborate with people from different regions such as Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Greece, France, etc. Everyone uses their local resources and provides them for the benefit of infrastructure and specific activities. Some have money, some speak many languages, some provide a safe place to sleep, some are good IT programmers, and some are good drivers. When all of this comes together, it increases the effectiveness of our activities. We don’t need a hierarchy or a stamp from the authorities to do this. Many activities can also be organized without money. If you know what you want, you can organize even with minimal resources. Solidarity is the way forward.

Spain: Two New Political Prisoners Mobilize for María José Baños

Several political prisoners in the Spanish state have launched weekly solidarity fasts to support and demand the release of María José Baños Andújar, a seriously ill anti-fascist prisoner of the GRAPO. The prisoners come from diverse traditions and political affiliations: Victoria Gómez (prisoner of the GRAPO – Anti-Fascist Resistance Groups of the First of October), Juan García (prisoner of the PCE(r) – Reconstituted Communist Party of Spain), Israel Torralba (prisoner of the GRAPO), Nacho Varela (prisoner of the GRAPO), Daniel Pastor (Basque communist prisoner), Patxi Ruiz (Basque prisoner), Israel Clemente (prisoner of the GRAPO), and Fernando García Jodra (Basque prisoner).

Recently, imprisoned rapper and activist Pablo Hasél and Basque prisoner Andoni Goikoetxea Gabirondo announced they were joining the movement. Meanwhile, activist Marcos Martín Ponce began an indefinite hunger strike on February 23, demanding, among other things, that María José Baños be transferred to the hospital by ambulance, while supporters are calling for amplified international mobilization for her release.
