o, yes, Signal runs on AWS. It also runs on your phone, which runs on iOS (Apple) or Android (Google). And on Dekstop, via Windows (Microsoft). Each of these presents similar dependencies on large entrenched tech companies, and concomitant barriers and risks. 10/
That's one of the reasons, I can't use Signal: It requires Android/iOS, which I don't use. Even the "desktop" client (Linux!) requires an Android/iOS device, right?
(The other reaons are phone number requirement and server not hosted in my jurisdiction, the #EU. #DigitalSovereignty is relevant to me.)

As ever with these things, I wish #Apple could be just a little bit less rapacious (yeah, right) so we don’t end up with a toothless law passed instead that leaves users worse off. 😕
See e.g. laws against phone spam which are beautifully drafted and utterly ineffective.
