Last night instead of going to bed I forgot about daylight saving time and added a statically defined #ipv6 #wireguard mesh between my #homelab servers.

Now I can use that instead of #tailscale for the secure data plane. Tailscale is great and I'll probably keep it for the management plane. The way it aggressively idles connections combined with the first packet seemingly always hitting a DERP server makes stuff feel a lot slower than it should.

Yesterday I made a "poor-man's VLAN" out of an old DD-WRT router. I put a Windows box behind it, isolated away from the rest of my homelab. I can RDP into the Windows box with Remmina, as well as #syncthing and ssh/sftp. This is all through a #Wireguard tunnel. The Chris Titus Tech utility was awesome to install all these Windows things. Normally I hate Windows, but that CTT tool made it palatable. I basically made a sort of trash containment system made out of networking, with one #Windows box in it. #OpenSource #SelfHosting #infosec #Microsoft
